Stephen Douglass Quoted in Financial Times

As the government shutdown continues, NISA’s Chief Economist Stephen Douglass explains in a Financial Times article this week about how the lack of official economic data is complicating the Fed’s deliberations.

Without updated jobs reports from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, leaders at the Federal Reserve and beyond are relying on alternative data sources.

Second-tier data “is a fragile basis for settling a contentious policy debate,” Stephen told the Financial Times.
